The United States will welcome home two U.S. citizens who had been detained in Yemen earlier this year. The U.S. State Department had focused on the release since they were made aware of the detention.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry commented:

I want to express my appreciation to all involved in producing this outcome, especially the Government of Oman under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, our Ambassadors to Yemen and Oman and their teams, and our interagency partners.

We will continue to work tirelessly to pursue the release of all Americans detained abroad unjustly, including those who remain in the region.

Families and relatives rejoiced as two Americans, three Saudis and a Briton boarded a plan to Oman on Monday after being released from months of detention by Yemeni rebels.
