In a stunning culmination of international law enforcement collaboration, Michael Robert Wiseman, a 50-year-old former Scottsdale, Arizona resident and one of the city’s most notorious fugitives, was apprehended in France on November 1, 2025. Once ranked as the second most wanted on the Scottsdale Police Department’s list, Wiseman’s arrest marks the end of a grueling 18-year manhunt that spanned continents and aliases, driven by allegations of heinous crimes against minors.

Wiseman’s story is one of repeated evasion and dogged pursuit. It began in December 2007, when Scottsdale authorities charged him with 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. A former airline pilot and school owner, Wiseman was arrested in February 2008 but was released on bond under strict electronic monitoring. Barely nine months later, in November 2008, he severed his ankle monitor and vanished, fleeing first to Mexico and then hopping across borders to Paris, London, and eventually Spain.

His first capture came swiftly in 2009, when Spanish National Police detained him at Malaga International Airport. Extradited back to Arizona, Wiseman faced the music: In January 2012, he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of second-degree escape. Sentenced to probation, he appeared to toe the line, at least for a while. But as authorities would later learn, Wiseman had no intention of staying put.

While serving his probation term, Wiseman struck again, absconding from the U.S. in a bid to outrun justice. This time, he adopted the alias “Robert Danilewski,” leveraging his dual U.S.-Polish citizenship to blend into foreign landscapes. Investigators tracked him to Vietnam, then Poland, before he resurfaced in France. Over the years, the Scottsdale Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit, in tandem with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, built a case brick by international brick. By September 2025, they secured a Provisional Arrest Warrant through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs, tipping off French authorities.

The breakthrough came through persistent digital sleuthing. Scottsdale detectives uncovered evidence of Wiseman’s continued predatory behavior abroad, including material that prompted French charges of rape and sexual assault of a minor. Armed with this, international partners closed in.

On November 1, Wiseman was taken into custody in France, where he now faces local prosecution alongside extradition proceedings back to Arizona for violating probation and outstanding warrants (CR2008-110549-002, CR2009-007633-001, and CR2014-002037-001).”This arrest reflects years of persistence, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to protecting children,” said Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc in a statement released today. “We are grateful to our partners in France and the U.S. Department of Justice for their tireless efforts in bringing this predator to justice.

“Wiseman’s evasion tactics were as audacious as they were heartbreaking. Described in earlier profiles as a polished professional who once ran a school, his flight path highlighted the challenges of pursuing sex offenders who exploit global mobility. The FBI’s Phoenix office had been involved since his initial disappearance, and his case even garnered attention on shows like America’s Most Wanted. Yet, for over a decade, tips led to dead ends, and Wiseman slipped through the cracks, until now.

As extradition talks advance, Wiseman’s capture serves as a stark reminder of the long arm of the law in the digital age. For the victims and their families, who have waited nearly two decades for closure, this is more than an arrest; it’s vindication. Scottsdale Police continue to urge anyone with information on other fugitives to come forward, emphasizing that no one is beyond reach.

The road to Wiseman’s French cell was paved with international warrants, alias busting, and unyielding resolve. In a world where predators too often hide in plain sight, this story underscores a hard truth: Justice, though delayed, can indeed be relentless.
