‘Mutilated And Abused’: Detransitioner Urges State Legislature To Pass Parental Rights Bill

Self-described detransitioner Katie Lennon shared her story of overcoming gender ideology during a New Hampshire hearing discussing a bill which would give parents more authority over their children’s education and health.
Lennon urged the New Hampshire State House to pass Senate Bill (SB) 272, saying she underwent a gender transition earlier in life that she now regrets.
“So, like many children and teens today, I identified myself as transgender for years,” Lennon began, video shared on Twitter shows. “And when I started to feel confused and ashamed about my developing body, I asked everyone in my life to call me by a new name and use male pronouns to refer to me. So, in other words, I went through a social transition from female to male.”
Lennon continued on to say she received very little pushback from the adults in her life. Those around her supported her decision to transition or were too afraid to speak up against it, Lennon said, adding that while the affirmation made her feel more confident in her gender identity, it led her down a road that eventually turned negative.
“Everyone in my life either immediately affirmed my new identity, either out of full support for it, or just to stay neutral and not cause any issues,” Lennon said. “The constant affirmation, both active and passive, solidified me in my transgender identity. No one meant to lock me into an identity that would later leave me more broken, ashamed and more confused than before. They were really all just being nice.”
Lennon’s journey escalated from her “social transition” to testosterone and a double mastectomy, she testified. She said she eventually had a full hysterectomy which involved the removal of her uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and both ovaries. “There’s no point of contentment during a gender transition. We get fleeting moments of euphoria, but ultimately one step leads straight into the next. And I thought that in the end that I could really become a man, but all I became was a mutilated and abused version of my old self.”
Lennon urged the importance of emphasizing that gender therapies are not reversible, and that any point to the contrary is “a lie.”
“New Hampshire doesn’t even require that parents be involved,” she said.
Lennon argued parents should have the right to know if their children are identifying with a community that has a high risk of mental health issues and suicide. She said denying them this information would prevent them from being able to protect their children.
The Parental Bill of Rights in Education S.B. 272 would give New Hampshire parents the right to know whether their children have changed their pronouns or gender identity at school. The bill also allows parents to bring legal action against schools if the institutions refuse to comply. Opponents of the bill argue it unfairly targets LGBTQ youth.
The bill passed the state Senate 14-10 on Tuesday with no support from Democrats in the legislature.
