RPAZ – On Thursday, President Trump unveiled a “Pro-American” plan that modernizes our immigration system and secures the border. As President Trump highlighted, his plan achieves two main goals:
1. Secures and modernizes our infrastructure at the border and stops illegal immigration.
- This plan was designed with input from border patrol and law enforcement officials to ensure it meets their needs.
- The plan creates a permanent, self-sustaining border security trust fund.
On the border wall: We will continue to build the border wall and approximately 400 miles will be completed by the end of 2020.
2. Establishes a legal merit-based immigration system that protects wages and promotes American values.
- The President’s plan reform our legal immigration system, making it more fair, modern, and transparent.
- Most of our legal immigrant admissions are based on family ties. Only 12% are based on skill and merit.
- The President’s proposal increases high-skilled immigration to 57% and implements a skills-based point system.
- The plan prioritizes the immediate family and makes no changes to the number of green cards issued each year.
- The proposal includes a civics and English proficiency exam to ensure immigrants have the skills needed to succeed.
- The plan closes loopholes in our broken asylum system that have allowed gang members and smugglers to take advantage of our border.
